Brigantine

by Aidan Aboud

Brigantine,

Soft coastal waters provide solace,

Time from destruction, Two-legged,

Burning, shafting, devouring.

Brigantine,

How oft desirous eyes, amber shafts,

Place organic pleasure on your home,

Barren decks of splintered wood,

Blood spilt o’er gaping orifice of sea.

Brigantine.

Winding wanton gasping breaths,

The cloth collects the heat,

Division, shining depths call,

To aquaphobic, delirious mammals.

Brigantine,

Collar bones evident against sun scarred skin,

Drifters find the eyes of God,

In beating sun, shattered hull,

The lashings sear with each movement.

Brigantine.

Eyes afeared, wild foam specked crests,

Ivory tears fall, wetting the wind-blown,

Rags — a cracking, a tearing, a splitting,

A chorus sings their final note,

Ere the lacings of night cordon the sky,

Brigantine.
